TELL YOUR OWN STORY

Justice Creates

The Justice Creates curriculum provides participants with the opportunity to share “what it is like to be me”. It includes art making, personal reflection and story telling, which helps the participants process their expression on the topic. As participants learn to use various forms of creative expression, they discover gifts and potential within themselves. They realise they have the capacity to do new things and this gives them the confidence to step out into their dreams and passions - they have hope. Participants with high confidence and hope will be less at risk of being victims of exploitation or instigators of violence.
The focus of the course is to create a platform where people can share and express their own journey. In the process of giving artistic voice to their own journey, they are empowered and find personal healing in the creative work. A final exhibition of the artwork created during the course can boost confidence and self-worth in the participants.

The topics are: "I like Me", Me and my Past, Me and my Gender, Me and my Family or Neighborhood, Me and my Future, My Dreams for my Community, My Story, Exhibition Preparation & Course feedback

Duration:
9 sessions at 2hrs each + exhibition event
Group size is ideally 12 people with 2-3 facilitators, but larger groups can be accommodated with enough facilitators

Equipment and space needed:
a large enough room to seat all participants at tables. Electricity and access to water is essential. See course manual for a list of art supplies needed

Justice Creates for kids

This is a more simple version of the "Justice Creates" curriculum which was originally designed for adults. When we used that course with younger children, it became clear that some aspects of it were not practical and we adapted it for younger children. The result is this course which can be used for children from about 5 to about 12 years of age.

The topics are: "I like Me", Me and my Body, Me and my Past, Me and my Family, Me and my Dreams for the Future, Me and my Community, Exhibition Preparation

Duration:
6 sessions at about 90 minutes each + exhibition event
It is advisable to have 1 staff/ facilitator per 4-5 children and have him/her be seated with the children

Equipment and space needed:
a large enough room to seat all children at age- appropriate tables. Electricity and access to water is essential. See course manual for a list of art supplies needed

The Sacred Journey

This course is designed to help participants begin practicing the art of journaling. Journaling is the reflective and creative recording of one's personal journey through writing, art or drawing. “Journaling” is derived from the word “journey”. “Sacred” means to “regard with reverence or respect”. In this class participants take time to explore their personal journey and learn from the journeys of others in a safe environment where each person is respected and treated with dignity.
Participants journal in class and on their own with “homework” assignments. During each class they learn a new way to creatively express themselves. They also have the opportunity during class to share with the group from their journals. This process of group vulnerability brings healing and freedom as they speak out their story, hear themselves and also listen to the journey of others. This gives them a chance to release their burdens or emotions in a healthy, productive way. Participants begin to see that everyone has a “sacred journey” that has value and needs to be shared.
The hoped outcome is that journaling or creative reflection becomes a personal practice that brings on-going healing and growth for a lifetime. Participants may not always have access to counselling or other helping people, but no matter where they are or what they are going through, they can find a pen and paper to release their pain and process life in a healthy, healing way through journaling.
This course introduces participants to a simple yet healthy way to deal with their feelings. Participants have opportunity to share their story or hear the pain or stories of others. It helps them to deal with their past, finding forgiveness for themselves, others and begin to dream for the future, taking tangible steps toward their goals. The hope is journaling can become a life-long personal therapy.

Some of the lesson themes include subjects such as: Understanding and Expressing my Feelings, Forgiving Myself, Forgiving Others, Gratitude, Life Reflection, Dreams for the Future, and Setting Goals.

The course has twelve lessons that run weekly for 1.5 to 2 hour sessions. The course can be shortened at the facilitators’ discretion to run for less weeks. The main supplies that are needed include: notebooks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, scissors (optional), old magazines and glue. The course is for literate or illiterate participants and focuses not only on writing but creative expression and verbal story telling.

Anti-TIP Training Thailand

This training is designed to raise awareness of the dangers of Human Trafficking in Thailand (TIP="Trafficking in Persons"). It is geared towards teachers, who are educating both young and older people about this issue, particularly in rural parts of Thailand, where from our experience awareness is minimal. The manual contains a flip-book with pictures to hold up, and teachers notes, for further information and instructions how to use the flip-book and the creative exercise. Hotline numbers for Thailand are also included.

The Thai language version is also available from the store.

This one-session training can easily be done in 2 hours total -  more is needed if time is given for discussion and feedback.
